Once again, two below average teams battling it out on this beautiful Wednesday night! Both these teams have lost me money this year, so the odds are very high for me to lose once again tonight, but I will give it my best shot to predict this game, and to give my best bet as well!
Sam Houston State @ New Mexico State
Time: 9:00pm ET
Lines: NMST -3.5, o/u 42
Sam Houston State:
Sam Houston is defeated on the year with an 0-5 record. However, their last two games they actually put up a competitive fight. In their 35-28 OT loss to JKST, the Bearkats were up 21-7 at half completely falling apart in the 4th quarter. And then last week, against the best team in the conference, SHSU battled all the way to the end and fell 21-16 against Liberty.
Even though they haven't won a game, they have improved night and day to earlier in the season. They not have a shot to upset an extremely beatable NMST team on the road.
Sam Houston had the worst offense in the country a couple weeks back, where they averaged just 150 yards of offense per game. With their recent improvements, they are now averaging 241 yards on offense. Defensively they are obviously below average and give up almost 400 yards a game.
New Mexico State:
NMSU sits at 3-3 on the year and got their first conference win last week against FIU. This team however is not as good as their record shows. They have lost to UMASS, one of the worst teams in the country, and then they lost to Hawaii, again not great.
However, they did battle with Liberty in a conference game and then beat up on FIU, so they are capable of being competitive this year in Conference USA.
They have a solid offense that averages 200 yards per game on the ground and 240 in the air. Defensively, like most of the conference, they are not great.
Like my other article today, I have also lost betting both of these teams spreads, so I feel more comfortable staying away from a side. I do however, once again like the total in this game.
NMSU's rushing attack should have a field day against Sam Houston's lack of rushing defense. With SHSU improving immensely the last two weeks, I think they will put up a couple touchdowns as well. For this reason, even though it is very low, I like this game to go over the 42 points.
