FITTING THE NFL MOLD
Ideally, a WRs height will be between 6'1" and 6'3" and he will weigh somewhere between 205 and 215 lbs. Hunter does not have the size of a prototypical WR but should have success in the slot and with designed plays. The three greatest predictors of NFL success for WRs in the combine are the 40 Yard Dash, the 3-Cone Drill, and the Vertical Jump. These test a players speed as well as their ability to high point a ball. Hunter did not participate in any of these drills as he is projected to be a top 5 pick and athleticism is not a concern with the uber talented athlete.
COLLEGE PRODUCTION
Two factors that scouts will raise red flags on are if a receiver has multiple 100+ reception seasons along with injuries and if they play in air-raid or spread heavy systems. Overuse is not a concern for Hunter as he was a two-way player on the field and excelled at both positions. He is one of the best two-way players that the game has ever seen. Hunter wants to play on both sides of the ball in the NFL as well. It is harder for teams to find elite DBs than it is to find receivers, so he projects to see a lot of time at the CB position in his rookie year. Hunter had an incredible 66.7% contested catch rate which is by far the highest since 2020. Thats 12% higher than Justin Jefferson and 16% higher than both Malik Nabers and Ja'Marr Chase.
WATCHING THE TAPE
Hunter has the best hands in the draft and it's not close. As a defensive player, Hunter is not afraid of contact at all and will be the hammer making defending DBs the nail. He also isn't lazy with his feet and makes sure to get his feet down to secure the catch before going out of bounds. There are a number of plays where defenders are committing obvious pass interference dragging him down at the point of attack and Hunter still finds a way to come down with the ball. He is incredibly shifty and makes contact difficult for opposing defenders. He has elite ball tracking and ball path recognition always putting him in the right place to make the catch. He is an elite weapon anywhere on the field.
THE LANDING SPOT
The Jags gave up 2 first rounders, a 2nd rounder, and a 4th rounder for the chance to land the uber talented athlete. He should see plenty of time on both sides of the ball as the Jags need help all over the field. The Jags are 6th in vacated targets with 170 thanks in large part to the departures of Christian Kirk and Evan Engram. Hunter should see a lot of meaningful snaps and if he isn't lined up at WR in running situations to give him a break, so be it. He's an instant starter for a team with a young QB that is very talented, despite his recent struggles.
WHERE TO DRAFT HIM
Injury is going to need to be accounted for as if he is going to be on field as much as we are expecting, he is going to get banged up along the way. In redraft leagues, he is a late round pick. In Dynasty rookie drafts, Hunter is deserving of a first round pick in or near the top 5.
