UTEP/FIU Game Predictions and Best Bets

Another midweek College Football showdown between UTEP and FIU. Both teams have been terrible this year and have both found themselves at the bottom of the Conference USA standings. Even though these is not a thrilling matchup, there is still some value I have found in this game. Let's begin!

Game Details:

University of Texas El Paso @ Florida International University

Time: 7:30pm ET

Lines: FIU -3, o/u 43.5

UTEP:

UTEP is sitting at just 1-5 on the year and are 0-2 in conference play. Their sole win came against Incarnate Word where they only won 28-14.

This team has struggled on both sides of the ball, failing to score points, and having a very difficult time slowing down their opponents, a recipe for disaster.

If you had to pick one strength on this team, it would be their run game. They are averaging almost 160 rushing yards per game, which is just 30 yards less than what they are averaging through the air.

There weaknesses are many. A terrible passing attacked paired with a defense that doesn't really want to play defense. As said before, this is not a great combination for a winning team.

FIU:

Florida International record is at 3-3 on the year, with their three wins coming against a couple terrible organizations: Maine, North Texas, and UConn.

Despite having a .500 record, they are ranked dead last in the conference with an 0-3 conference record. They have a descent chance of getting their first conference win tonight at home!

FIU's offense in total yardage is even worse than UTEP's. They are averaging 15 yards less in total offense. FIU almost has no run game, and are averaging just 107 yards per game, but have had a little more success in the air with 222 passing yards per game.

Defensively, FIU is also worse than UTEP statistically. They are giving up 60 more yards on defense, including 207 on the ground and 240 in the air,

Game Prediction:

FIU is only the favorite in this game because they are at home. As I just mentioned, that are statistically worst in almost every aspect in the game. The one thing that is a guarantee in this matchup is that both teams are no good on either side of the ball.

When it comes to who is going to win this game, it is honeslty a coinflip. I would lean UTEP with the points, but again, I have had not a whole lot of luck betting spreads in these midweek matchups.

I think the real value lies in this total. Both teams are not great on either side of the ball, but they are pretty evenly matched up. UTEP's small success at running the ball should play a big role in their offensive scheme as they play against one of the worst rushing defenses in the country. Similar, UTEP has a lot of holes on their defense and FIU should find some success offensively in this game.

I love the over here, and think we could get an abnormally high scoring game!

UTEP 35

FIU 38

BET:

UTEP/FIU o43.5
