Updated: Aug 30

Welcome to English Premier League Best Bets, a Bettor in Green Article Series where we break down the latest action in the English Premier League (EPL) and my favorite bets for the upcoming matchweek.

For an overview of what to expect in this Series, check out my 2025/26 EPL Season Preview and Futures article here.

Recap:

On Friday, West Ham took the lead with a wonder strike from Lucas Paquetá, but it was all Chelsea after that, cruising to a dominant 1-5 win.

On Saturday, Spurs pulled off an upset by beating Manchester City 0-2 on the road; Bournemouth, Brentford, and Burnley each bounce back this week with a win, and Arsenal crush Leeds, with their new striker getting 2 goals.

On Sunday, Everton played their first match in their new stadium, securing a win, while the other two matches (Crystal Palace v Nottingham Forest; Fulham v Man United) ended in a 1-1 draw.

In the final match on Monday, Liverpool looked like they were about to squander a 2-goal lead to a 10-man Newcastle, but Liverpool found a dramatic winner in the 10th minute of stoppage time.

We went 2-1 for Best Bets, winning Chelsea and narrowly winning Liverpool, while United (particularly Bruno Fernandes) let us down. Across the Globe we didn’t do much better than last week, going 2-3.

Upcoming Matches:

The weekend, there are 6 matches on Saturday, starting with a London Derby between Chelsea and Fulham.

There are 4 matches on Sunday, including a late march between Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, as well as the marquee match of the weekend, Liverpool hosting Arsenal.

Of note, many of these EPL clubs just played a Carabao Cup match on Tuesday or Wednesday, potentially giving less training or preparation time for the EPL matches at the weekend.

Let’s get to the bets:

Best Bets:

Pick #1: 2-Leg SGP: Chelsea Moneyline and Over 1.5 Goals -115 (Aug. 30, 2025; 7:30 a.m. EST):

For my first Best Bet, I’m going right back to a bet we cashed last week, Chelsea moneyline and over 1.5 total goals.

Last week, Chelsea easily won this bet, thumping West Ham 1-5 on the road, and have won with over 1.5 goals in 10 of their last 12 matches, stretching back to last season. This week, they host Fulham in a London derby.

Fulham have managed 2 draws in their opening EPL matches, with the score being 1-1 in both matches. Fulham went behind in both and was able to equalize relatively late in the 2nd half.

Fulham also just played a Carabao Cup match on Wednesday, winning 2-0. While they played a mostly-rotated squad, they relied on Raul Jiménez and a few other key players to get the job done. All that is to say, they may have limited options for the weekend with the quick turnaround of Wednesday to early Saturday.

Pick #2: Tottenham Hotspur Moneyline -115 (Aug. 30, 2025; 10:00 a.m. EST):

For my second Best Bet, I’m looking at Tottenham, who have started the season with 2 wins, as they host Bournemouth.

Tottenham have had a big summer coming off their Europa League Final win in the spring. They’ve fired previous manager, Ange Postecoglou, and have hired Thomas Frank, the former Brentford manager, as his replacement.

Tottenham looked good in the UEFA Super Cup in August against reigning Champions League victors, PSG, despite losing in penalties. They then have won their opening 2 EPL matches, including a 0-2 win on the road to Man City last weekend.

Arguably as important for the wins for this Spurs side is that they have kept two clean sheets (shutouts). Frank has prioritized defensive structure, rather than just individual press, and is finding success attacking and defending set pieces (corner kicks, free kicks, throw-ins), a big weakness for them last season.

Bournemouth, on the other hand, have lost most, if not all, of their key defenders over the summer. They are 1-1 on the season, having looked set to trouble Liverpool, only to lose 4-2, then won1-0 against Wolves, though Wolves were stifled by a red card early in the 2nd half.

Bournemouth most recently lost their Carabao Cup match on Tuesday to Brentford. They may try to bounce back from the loss, but they had to introduce some key players to try to salvage the match, while Spurs have had the whole week to rest and prepare.

Pick #3: Leeds United to Win Either Half +110 (Aug. 30, 2025; 12:30 p.m. EST):

For my final bet, I’m looking at another home team, newly promoted Leeds United.

I know what you might be thinking, backing Leeds after their 5-0 defeat to Arsenal??

Yes, and while this bet is about Leeds, it’s mostly fading a struggling Newcastle.

Leeds won their opening match against Everton, notably at home. They then got thumped at Arsenal at the Emirates, then lost on penalties to Sheffield Wednesday (a 2nd division club) on Tuesday.

Last season, in the 2nd division, Leeds won 18 of their 23 at home, only winning 11 of 23 on the road. If they hope to stay in the EPL, they’ll need wins or draws at home, like this match.

Newcastle are in a state of disarray right now, though they may have sorted out a key piece of their striker situation. They don’t have a sporting director still don’t have a plan for Alexander Isak, though they seemed to sign his replacement this week in Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart.

Last week, they almost surged back to draw with Liverpool, despite being a man down after an Anthony Gordon red card, only to lose at the very end.

They’ll be without Gordon in this match through suspension, and Joelinton, Tonali, and Schär all picked up injuries in the last match. Even if they do get in Woltemade in time for this match, they’ll be playing without a full squad.

Feeling nervous? Take Leeds to Win or Draw -140. Feeling confident? Try Leeds Moneyline +235.

Across the Globe:
