Welcome to English Premier League Best Bets, a Bettor in Green Article Series where we break down the latest action in the English Premier League (EPL) and my favorite bets for the upcoming matchweek.

For an overview of what to expect in this Series, check out my 2025/26 EPL Season Preview and Futures article here.

Recap:

In the first match of the weekend Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest in Ange Postecoglou’s first match as Forest boss.

Newcastle got their first win of the season, with new striker Woltemade getting on the scoresheet.

Fulham got the win thanks to a wild own goal by Leeds in stoppage time.

We had a few matches with late goals, as Chelsea conceded an equalizer in stoppage time and Liverpool got another late winner to keep their perfect start.

In the marquee match of the weekend, Manchester City beat Manchester United 3-0, with a brace (2 goals) from Erling Haaland.

We went 2-1 for Best Bets, winning our Jack Grealish 2+ shots bet and Spurs moneyline, losing on Chelsea due to a late Brentford equalizing goal. Across the Globe we went 3-2, winning RB Leipzig, Mjällby, and AC Milan. We also hit our Bonus Bet on the Manchester Derby.

Upcoming Matches:

Matchweek 5 kicks off with the Merseyside Derby, as Liverpool host Everton at Anfield.

The big matchup on Saturday is Manchester United hosting Chelsea at 12:30 EST, before Saturday ends with a West London Derby between Fulham and Brentford.

There are 3 matches on Sunday, with the marquee match of the weekend being Arsenal hosting Manchester City.

Let’s get to the bets:

Best Bets:

Pick #1: Leeds United to Win Either Half -110 (Sep. 20, 2025; 10:00 a.m. EST):

For our first Best Bet, I’m going with something a little crazy, backing Leeds United to win either half.

Why is this crazy? Because Leeds have only scored 1 goal so far in the EPL, coming in their first match of the season.

However, they looked like the better side in their last match against Fulham, and technically scored the only goal, a crazy own goal from Gudmundsson.

While they were demolished by Arsenal a few weeks ago, they then got a goalless draw against Newcastle before the narrow loss to Fulham.

Their opponents, Wolves, sit at the bottom of the EPL table, having failed to win a game. Their star striker, Jørgen Strand Larsen, has been out for a couple weeks with an achilles injury and will likely be out (or at least limited, if available) for this match.

While Leeds have struggled for goals this season, the Wolves match is the perfect opportunity to build some form and confidence. While I think they win outright in a low-scoring affair, I’ll take them to win either half, possibly preventing against a 1-1 draw.

Pick #2: Fulham Moneyline +100 (Sep. 20, 2025; 3:00 p.m. EST):

For my second Best Bet, I’m looking at the late match on Saturday, a West London Derby between Fulham and Brentford.

Fulham were almost non-existent in the transfer window this season, until making a few moves on Deadline Day, most notably bringing in Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk.

They’re currently 1-2-1 in the EPL, winning last time out against Leeds. They look to have a healthy squad and should be at their best for this match.

Brentford, their opponents, have also surprised so far this season and notably fought back for a draw against Chelsea last week.

Brentford lost their big-name attackers (Wissa and Mbuemo) in the summer and have had to rely on new signing Dango Ouattara, Igor Thiago, and Fabio Carvalho to get their goals.

Notably, Brentford have lost both of their away matches in the EPL. They also just played a Carabao Cup match on Tuesday, defeating Aston Villa on penalties. While they rested a few key players, they’ll still have a quick turnaround from a tough Villa match.

Fulham, on the other hand, didn’t have a midweek match and instead have one next week, a match against 4th-tier Cambridge that should allow them to rotate their squad.

Pick #3: Bournemouth to Win Either Half -135 (Sep. 21, 2025; 9:00 a.m. EST):

For my final bet, I’m backing a team that has surprisingly impressed, 4th place Bournemouth.

I shouldn’t be as surprised, as Bournemouth also had a great season last year, finishing 9th, their highest finish since the 2016/17 season.

The reason this comes as a shock is that Bournemouth lost most of their defenders from last year, notably Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid and Milos Kerkez to Liverpool. Despite this, they’ve won 3 of their opening 4 EPL matches, with their one loss against Liverpool, a match they looked set to draw until 2 late Liverpool goals.

Bournemouth’s opponents, Newcastle United, are a team we’ve been fading so far this season. As we’ve discussed in prior articles, Newcastle have been without a sporting director, lost Alexander Isak to Liverpool in the transfer saga of the summer, and struggled to bring in a replacement, ultimately landing Yoane Wissa from Brentford and Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart.

Newcastle are still likely to be without Wissa for this match, or if he is available he will be involved in a limited capacity.

Newcastle just played their opening Champions League match on Thursday against Barcelona, where they lost 0-2 at home. They now travel all the way across the country to take on Bournemouth. While players like Woltemade didn’t play the entire match, the difficult match, the tight turnaround, and the travel are sure to weigh on Newcastle, whereas Bournemouth have had the entire week to prepare, without having to do any travel so far in September.

While Newcastle are still a tough team, I’ll be backing Bournemouth to at least win either half.

Feeling confident? Try Bournemouth Moneyline +140.

Across the Globe:
