The second game on this beautiful Wednesday is also in Conference USA between Florida International and New Mexico State. Nothing special between these two teams, but by favorite bet of the day is in this game! Could be a couple unit play!
FIU @ NMSU
Time: 9pm ET
Lines: NMST -6.5, o/u 48.5
FIU is 3-2 on the season. They lost a close one week 1 at Louisiana Tech, and then rattled off three straight wins against Maine, North Texas, and UConn, before falling to Liberty last week.
FIU's opening game against Louisiana Tech had a team total of four passing yards... Yeah you read that right. Abysmal. They quickly changed QB's and during their 3-game win streak, they were rattling off passing yards and connecting on all cylinders, before falling to the best team in the conference.
Confidence should be back up for FIU as they travel to a very beatable NMST team. FIU being this big of an underdog is outright disrespectful, and I fully expect them to take this personally. Watch out for the FIU passing attack to explode in this game like it did before.
FIU's defense does what it can to keep the offense in the game. They are nothing special but will get stops when they need it! Their rushing defense will be the main focus, as NMSU has a heavy rushing attack. I believe this will be a main focus at practice this week, and I think the FIU defense will be up for the challenge.
New Mexico State:
NMSU is 2-3 on the year and haven't one back to back games yet. Luckily for them, they lost last week to Hawaii, so they are due for a win to keep their LWLWL routine alive. New Mexico State started the season off with an embarrassing 11 point loss to UMASS, and then got their confidence back with a smashing of a terrible WIU team. They then lost to Liberty as well, and beat New Mexico before falling to Hawaii.
Now as I said before, this is a very odd line to see NMSU as a 6.5 point favorite. Vegas is up to something with this line, and I'm assuming NMSU is such a favorite because of home field advantage, and their powerful rushing attack is up against a poor rush defense.
Even so, I don't like NMSU in this matchup. They had too many disappointing losses to terrible opponents that they are almost impossible to tail in any matchup.
Two almost even opponents facing off on a Wednesday night C-USA football game. I love it! Take the home field out of the picture, which I doubt there is any homefield advantage anyways, but FIU is the better team on paper.
I think they will figure it out once again on offense and take control of this game. However, FIU has not blown any team out this year. They always allow their opponent to hang in there, and I think that will be true tonight.
With FIU's passing attack coming alive, and NMSU having success on the ground, this should be a back and forth high scoring affair, and because I think FIU is the better team, I will happily take them on the spread. I would love to wait to see if they get to +7, but that is not going to happen because FIU is probably the public bet already.
