NBA Best Bets 2/24

Tyrese Haliburton dribbling the ball up the court
By: Dustin Dopirak, Indianapolis Star

The first week back from the All-Star break is officially in the books. Most teams have made it clear as to where they want to go for the rest of the season. Some are preparing for the draft lottery, while others are jockeying for a playoff spot. Nonetheless, the betting world does not slow down. We went 2-0 last time due to Michael Porter Jr. missing the game with an injury. Let's continue the hot streak and go for a clean sweep yet again.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs OKC Thunder Under 228 (-110)

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder played just night where they soared over the line total. The final score was 130-123 in a shootout, so why would the under hit today? Well for starters the line is increasing, but that is most likely due to the game we just saw. However, these players are traveling from Minnesota to Oklahoma overnight to play against a team that just saw them 24 hours ago. Furthermore, this is the 3rd game in 4 nights for both squads. Granted the All-Star break just occurred, but there has to be some level of fatigue that sets in.

These two teams have been a top 6 defense all season, but have been mediocre to start the second half of the season. Despite that notion and last night's game, I think that these two teams are going to face some fatigue while also figuring out each other on the defensive end.

Tyrese Haliburton Over 9.5 Assists (-102)

Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers had an odd start to the season. After making the Eastern Conference Finals last year, the Pacers were poised to be a top team in the conference. Haliburton was the star of the team and was looking to make another leap to maybe superstardom. However, things were rocky to start, especially for Haliburton.

His shooting splits were putrid to start the season and the team didn't look like they were cohesive. Fast-forward to today and the Pacers are the 4th seed in the East and Haliburton has rounded into form. He is still one of the best passers in the NBA, averaging 8.6 APG, which is 6th-best in the league. He has a great matchup tonight against the Denver Nuggets.

The Nuggets have struggled on the defensive end most of the season. One department that I wanted to attack was their weakness towards great playmakers. The Nuggets allow the most APG and third most APG to point guards alone. Both of these teams play with high levels of pace ( both in the top 6) and can have big lapses on defense. I expect Haliburton to be dishing the ball all game and rack up the assists.

Domantas Sabonis 14+ Rebounds (-205)

Domantas Sabonis is the best rebounder in basketball and it might not be close. Sabonis is averaging a whopping 14.6 RPG, which is a full rebound better than Karl-Anthony Towns in second place. Sabonis is a machine on the glass and has been for quite some time now.

He faces the Charlotte Hornets, who will be without their starting center, Mark Williams. They are going to be very thin at the center position with Moussa Diabate and Taj Gibson roaming the paint. Sabonis should feast on a team that is in the bottom 10 in rebounds allowed per game and allow the 4th-most RPG to centers.

I don't want to lose to the hook so I will be laying some juice with the -205 line. However, this should be a win as he has recorded this line or better in 6 straight games.

NBA Record: 30-22
