Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Adds: Week 3

Week 3 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

Fantasy Football is back. The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, the bipolar and totally reliable Sleeper projections that have your team going from a 77% chance at victory to getting curb stomped in less than two hours. Tis the season. Embrace it. Love it. The Waiver Wire is where dreams start. Whether it's taking advantage of the opportunity presented by a frustrated league mate discarding a slow starter, or picking up that next undrafted free agent from the Solomon Islands that just touched a football yesterday you're sure is a league winner, the wire can be a huge part of strategy. In this series each week of this glorious season I will go over my hot adds of the week you should be submitting your claims for. I try to provide sound evidence for these players and occasionally even alert you to concerns about picking them up. In the end this is your team though and if it's between listening to me or your gut on a player always go with your gut. I suck at this and you should roll with your guys no matter what because that makes champions. Now, let's ride this pony.

Rhamondre Stevenson, RB, New England Patriots

I was a Rhamondre hater coming into this season I admit. However, he seems to be firmly in control of this Patriots backfield for now. In redraft I'm rolling with him but for my dynasty players this presents a great time to inquire about Treveyon Henderson as he's still the long play and the future of Patriots RBs. The draft capital, tape, and limited pro snaps seem to confirm this. Just taking longer than I thought.

Stevenson has played around 60% plus of snaps in our two-game sample size. He has turned that into 3.70 and 18.70 points in half ppr respectively. Pretty good so far. Week 2 he managed a nice 4.91 YPC on his carries and an awesome 88 yards receiving for 17.6 YPT and 17.6 YPC. This involvement in the passing game is beautiful and just what we want. Add in a touchdown and this is a monster game. His next two matchups are against poo run defenses in the Steelers and Panthers. I'd hope he puts up huge numbers and bail on a sell high. Monitor Henderson's involvement and if it looks to be increasing sell Stevenson to a RB desperate team or a Chicken Little Henderson owner. If Stevenson is still driving the boat hold and profit. Cut and dry, don't get cute with this.

Troy Franklin, WR, Denver Broncos

Franklin might finally be putting that chemistry from college with Nix to work. His snaps were at 59% week 1 to an incredible 83% week 2. Right on schedule and we talk about this leads to increased opportunity which is hopefully translating to points and it did. 6.40 to 20 points is a great success indicator. 9.89 YPT and 11.13 YPC on 9 targets catching 8 of those 9. He even had a nice 11 yard rushing pickup which is great for a receiver getting some of those designed looks. This shows me Nix and the coaches are starting to trust Franklin and it's paying off. Week 3 against the Chargers defense could be a bad play but week 4 is juicy against a weak Bengals secondary. The Broncos pick up as the season goes on and now is the time to scoop up and hold Franklin.

Wan'Dale Robinson, WR, New York Giants

This week's belle of the ball, Robinson is a consistent PPR scam for two years now. 76 and 70% snap shares and peppered with targets against the Cowboys. He turned 10 targets into 8 catches for 142 yards and 14.2 YPT with a 17.75 YPC and one touchdown. His schedule after the Saints in week 5 looks tough playing the Eagles twice and the Broncos but I think he's a great rest of season flex or tantalizing trade bait. My biggest concern is the overtime use but Russel Wilson is playing with the job on the line and they will be playing from behind a lot. Their questionable defense looks like shootouts are possible too. I think Robinson is a great bye week filler.

Hunter Renfrow, WR, Carolina Panthers

The team scares me but with Coker still sidelined and Legette looking like a giant bust, there's a huge gap behind Tet that needs to be filled. Renfrow made the most of his 81% snap share and turned 9 targets into 7 catches for 48 yards. The YPT was 5.33 and the YPC was 6.86 which isn't inspiring but good to see his role increasing from week 1 and not regressing. With Legette putting up a historical stinker, it's not crazy to think this can keep growing. I'm concerned about those two touchdowns doing heavy lifting for his 20 points in week 2 against the Cardinals but he's a great flex or bye week filler. Similar to the Giants, this is a team playing catch up every game with a questionable defense.

Honorable Mentions:

Romeo Doubs, Carson Wentz, Blake Corum, Tyrod Taylor, Tre Tucker
