The MLB props continue to roll on this Wednesday after a rough go on Monday. I went 1-2, but it could've been a perfect sweep. Corbin Burnes was one strikeout away from his over, while Erick Fedde finished with 4 strikeouts, despite pitching an overall good game. Carlos Rodon was fantastic and breezed through his over-on-outs recorded.Â
Luckily, today there are more prop options than on Monday. The board is looking robust and that brings a twinkle to my eye. I am seeing some fascinating props that might need further examination. Let's take a deeper dive into the best props for this Wednesday.Â
Spencer Schwellenbach Under 15.5 Outs Record (-180)
The Atlanta Braves are really struggling as of late. Their offense can't hit like they were earlier in the season and the pitching as of late has fallen off of a cliff. This could be due to them losing both Ronald Acuna Jr. and Spencer Strider for the remainder of the season. They are trying to pick up the pieces slowly, but nothing is clicking. One of the replacements for Strider is their third-best prospect in their farm system, Spencer Schwellenbach.Â
The young pitcher from Nebraska has made two starts thus far and they have not been the best. In those two starts, he has allowed at least 3 earned runs and 5 hits. Furthermore, he has not hit this over in those starts as well. Also, the matchup is not in his favor.Â
He is facing a great Baltimore Orioles squad that is top ten in hitting against right-handed pitchers and at home. I expect Schwellenbach to be roughed up from the very start and be lucky enough to reach five innings with a rested bullpen in hand for the Braves.Â
Javier Assad Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-135)
If you were to take a glance at the NL leaders in ERA, you would see a mysterious name in the top five of ERA. That name is Chicago Cubs pitcher, Javier Assad. For the past few seasons, Assad has made some starts, but was more of a bullpen arm last season, as he only made 10 starts out of 32 total appearances. However, this season has shown that he become a full-blown starter and execute.Â
Assad has been great at keeping runners from scoring. He has only allowed more than 2 earned runs in two games this season. Tonight, he faces the Tampa Bay Rays, who are not a well-oiled machine offensively. They struggle against righties (25th in batting average) and can't seem to hit at home either (26th in batting average at home).Â
A lot of people believe that Assad will come down to earth, but I do not see that happening today. He is facing a cold squad and his last outing was a rough one due to facing the Reds on back-to-back starts. I think Assad pitches well today and does not allow more than 2 earned runs.Â
Jake Irvin Over 17.5 Pitching Outs (-135)
The Washington Nationals have been a frisky team all season long. The public expected another mediocre season with their young talent, but they are currently 31-35 and in the race for that last wild card spot. They have been getting contributions from a number of players we did not see coming with one of them being their starting pitcher, Jake Irvin.Â
In the beginning of the season, Irvin did not look confident in his stuff, but he has since turned it around. Since his last start in May where his ERA was at 4.28, Irvin has dropped that ERA all the way down to 3.12. He has been able to go deeper into games as well. He has reached this over in four straight starts and five of his last seven.Â
His opponent for today is the Detroit Tigers, who are not one of the better offensive teams in the MLB. They are 24th in batting average at home, as they play in one of the least hitter friendly ballparks in the league. Irvin has shown that he truly has the ability to be a major league pitcher and could even become more than that. He is showcasing real stuff as of late and I think that continues in a favorable matchup versus the Tigers.Â
