MLB Player Props 5/31

Corey Seager excited after hitting a home run
By: Wayne G. McDonnell, Jr., Forbes

Wednesday was not the best for my return over the holiday break. A 1-2 record on some plays I believed were locks truly hurt, but it happens. Shota Imanaga was due for a rough start, but I wanted to continue to ride the hot hand. He got demolished by the Milwaukee Brewers and could not muster up enough outs. Seth Lugo had a good outing but still surrendered six hits. Luis Gil's over 17.5 outs was the only prop that turned green, as he was excellent once again for the New York Yankees.

Today I look to bounce back from that mediocre Wednesday slip. There are tons of games going on today. Let's see what three props made the cut.

Luis Severino Under 5.5 Hits (-155)

The New York Mets are in a state of turmoil right now. They are losing games in embarrassing fashion and just had an incident with Jorge Lopez throwing his glove into the stands which led to him being DFA'd. However, they were able to bounce back with a win last night against the reigning NL champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Now they have their best-starting pitcher on the bump for tonight's game in Luis Severino.

Despite a few blow-up starts, Severino has been good for the Mets. He is sporting a 2-2 record with a 3.22 ERA as of today. His line being at 5.5 hits is perplexing. After his first start of the season, Severino has not allowed more than five hits in a start except for a game against the Miami Marlins where he allowed six.

The Diamondbacks were supposed to replicate their playoff formula from last season and bring it into the regular season this year, but that has not come to fruition. Against right-handed pitchers, the D-Backs are 25th in batting average and 29th in total hits. They are in a downward spiral this season, as they are in fourth place in the NL West.

Severino is also a better pitcher at home compared to on the road. In six home starts, he has a 2.00 ERA and opponent's are hitting .188. The Mets might be a trainwreck this season, but I still believe in Severino at home pitching a gem.

Corey Seager Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-150)

The hottest hitter in baseball is without a doubt Aaron Judge. He is putting up video game numbers in the month of May. Unfortunately, that has overshadowed another player putting up insane numbers this month. Corey Seager has 11 home runs this month to go along with a 1.059 OPS. The reigning World Series MVP started the season slow, but is now picking up where he ended last season.

Seager has eclipsed this over in nine straight games and there is no reason why he can't get this streak go to double figures. The Texas Rangers face the lowly Miami Marlins and Sixto Sanchez. The young Marlins pitcher is still trying to regain his footing in the league after missing the last few years. Unfortunately, Sanchez is severely struggling. He currently owns a 6.25 ERA and putrid 1.3 K/BB ratio.

Seager is on a tear and is a must-play tonight. Let's ride Seager like how I did with Judge a few weeks ago.

Reynaldo Lopez Under 2.5 Earned Runs (-165)

The Atlanta Braves are not in the best state right now. They lost Spencer Strider in the beginning of the season and now lost Ronald Acuna Jr. with a torn ACL. They are 4-6 in their last 10 and are 6.5 games back of the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East, which they have dominated for quite some time now. After losing a series to the Washington Nationals, they will try to regain their footing against the Oakland Athletics.

The first starter for this series will be Reynaldo Lopez, who is having a very good season in a starter role. Lopez has a 1.75 ERA for the season and has not allowed more than two earned runs except for one start. That is why the under here is very juicy.

Furthermore, the A's are awful on the road. They are the 28th ranked team on the road in runs scored and dead-last in road batting average. Lopez has a great matchup tonight and should be able to now allow more than two earned runs.

MLB Record: 9-9
