FITTING THE NFL MOLD
QBs come in all shapes and sizes now with scouts relying more on certain metrics to evaluate the position. They are looking for an AY/A (Adjusted Yards Per Attempts) over 9.0 which takes into account yards, touchdowns, and interceptions giving a better overview than raw YPA. They are also looking for a sack rate under 5% and an INT rate under 2%. Statistically, Quinn leaves a lot to be desired and one of his biggest flaws is his willingness to take sacks. Instead of throwing the ball away, Quinn has a tendency to tuck the ball and get tackled for a loss hurting himself and the team. His numbers suggest he's a day three prospect that could one day become a 2nd string player in the league.
COLLEGE PRODUCTION
Quinn never had a season where he reached a 70% completion rate and while he had 9 more TDs this year, he also doubled his number on interceptions. He works best as a pocket passer as his rushing production over his three years starting were -52 yds, 75 yds, and -82 yds. He consistently had some elite talent while at Texas including Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell, Ja'Tavion Sanders, Matthew Golden, and Isaiah Band. With this level of talent, it's disappointing he never reached the 3,500 passing yards mark.
WATCHING THE TAPE
Quinn's best attributes are minimizing turnovers and going through his progressions to find the open man. He is also good situationally and will get the ball to his tall TE's in the redzone maximizing his chances of success. He has average arm strength and doesn't have pinpoint accuracy. He is frequently getting the ball near his receivers to let them make a play but fails to consistently hit them in stride. He is slow breaking out of the pocket and is not a threat to scramble for first downs.
THE LANDING SPOT
Quinn lands in a great spot after being drafted by Miami. The Dolphins have frequently needed to use their backup QBs due to Tua being frequently injured. He has a pair of elite receivers to go along with a talented receiving TE for if and when he gets the chance to play. He was a 7th round pick and has an uphill battle to start for the Dolphins or any other team in the league. Miami seems like the best possible scenario for Ewers.
WHERE TO DRAFT HIM
Ewers is un-draftable in redraft leagues. In dynasty rookie drafts, Ewers is a 4th round pick or later. He is in the Brock Purdy/Tom Brady category where it isn't impossible for him to ever be a meaningful fantasy asset, but it is highly unlikely. It is more likely that he is out of the league by the end of his rookie contract than a starter.
