The draft is the foundation to a good fantasy team, but a championship team is active on the waiver wire to capitalize on shifting opportunity shares and emerging talent. Each week, I’ll give you a breakdown of my favorite adds in fantasy football. All players listed have to be rostered in under 50% of leagues to qualify for this list.
Tyjae Spears, RB, Tennessee Titans, 13.6% owned
Spears, while the clear RB 2, was on the field for more snaps than King Henry (34-30). Spears was also on the field for every third down whereas Henry saw no snaps (12-0). The Titans have an aging Henry (29) and will look to try to save him down the stretch by splitting his workload. With real injury concerns as well, Spears could walk into a workhorse role. He finished with 3 rushes and 4 targets with one of his rushes going for 17 yards.
Joshua Kelley, RB, Los Angeles Chargers, 7.7% owned
Kelley received 16 carries and averaged a stellar 5.7 yards per rush. Ekeler later popped up on the injury report which could mean more work for Kelley in the coming weeks. Kellen Moore has shown he wants to establish the run and with Ekeler's small frame, they have already started mixing Kelley in with a more than healthy number of carries. Like Spears above, while he can be a usable handcuff, if the starter were to miss anytime, he would see a lot of work.
Puka Nacua, WR, Los Angeles Rams, 3.7% owned
Puka tied Tyreek Hill for the most targets in Week 1 with 15 targets. Tutu Atwell also had a good game and with Kupp coming back, it’s possible people glance over Nacua but he should be a priority add in leagues. Stafford trusts him and he has a clear role in this offense.
Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers, 25% owned
While Doubs only saw 5 targets, he had 2 of the four endzone pass attempts converting both to TDs. Love trusts him near the goal line which is gold for fantasy. Watson coming back soon makes me like Doubs even more. Watson will pull attention away and Doubs will get to enjoy WR 2 coverage. In an offense short on pass catchers, Doubs has a pretty solid floor with weekly starter upside.
Who would be your top add?
Tyjae Spears
Joshua Kelley
Puka Nacua
Romeo Doubs
