FITTING THE NFL MOLD

Ideally, a RBs height will be between 5'9" and 6'1" and he will weigh somewhere between 200 and 230 lbs. Gordon is massive and is one of the largest RBs in this year's class. The two greatest predictors of NFL success for RBs in the combine are the 40 Yard Dash and the Broad Jump. These test a players speed as well as their lower body explosiveness. Gordon doesn't have great numbers, but due to his size this isn't alarming. He led college football in rushing yards in 2023 with an absurd 1,732 yards but followed that up with only 880 yards the next season.

COLLEGE PRODUCTION

NFL teams raise red flags when a player has 700 or more carries in college or 300+ carries in a season. Gordon saw plenty of work in college but not enough that scouts will have concerns. Where they will have concerns though, is in his production drop off from his 2023 to his 2024 season. He also had an arrest in mid 2024 that raises character concerns and concerns about his dedication to the game.

WATCHING THE TAPE

When Gordon gets moving, defenders bounce off of him like pinballs. He plays incredibly strong and forces to defenders to either wrap him up and wait for help or dive for his legs and pray. He has decent lateral and horizontal speed for a guy of his size. He is incredibly dangerous in the redzone as he can pound the ball across the goal line from anywhere. He isn't afraid of contact from anyone at any speed. He is an average receiver, and it doesn't look like he is comfortable or trusts his hands completely. He's going to have to watch his weight at the next level as he doesn't seem to have the same athleticism that guys like Derrick Henry have, so added weight could increase his risk of injuries and decrease his effectiveness.

THE LANDING SPOT

Landing on the Dolphins is less than ideal for Gordon. He will be behind De'Von Achane and Jaylen Wright to start the season and might remain the RB 3 for the next 3 years. People have short memories and forget how much hype Wright had coming out of Tenn. Wright is a decent player and won't be an easy obstacle for Gordon to overcome. This is a messy situation for Gordon that is giving me pause moving forward.

WHERE TO DRAFT HIM

In redraft leagues, Gordon should be left on waivers and I'm not even considering him with my last pick. In dynasty rookie drafts, Gordon is a 4th round or later pick. He is buried on this depth chart behind other young RBs, and I seriously question if he will ever see a serious number of snaps in the NFL.
